Mama’s Kiss First Aid Salve
It seems that you can find something on a store shelf to treat just about any kind of ailment, wound, or skin irritation.
But do we know what’s in all these creams and ointments that we’re rubbing onto our skin? Here’s an ingredient list for a popular first aid ointment: Neomycin (3.5 mg), Polymyxin B (10,000 units), Pramoxine HCI (10 mg). Inactive Ingredients: Emulsifying Wax, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water, and White Petrolatum. Ingredients in this list have been linked to cancer, developmental/reproductive toxicity, organ system toxicity, and others. Countless people use this ointment (especially on children), unaware of the toxic ingredients that are being introduced to the body through the skin.
With eleven children in our families, you can believe that we deal with lots of scrapes, bites, and stings, and we use Mama’s Kiss first aid salve with the peace of mind that all of the ingredients are natural and safe.
It starts with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and organic herbs. The herbs calendula, comfrey, echinacea, plantain, and yarrow are used for their known abilities to reduce pain, itching, and soreness and to promote wound healing. The herbal infused oil is then blended with beeswax, which stabilizes the salve and also offers antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Lavender essential oil is added not only for its calming scent, but also for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiseptic benefits. Vitamin E oil acts as a natural preservative.
Little Bums Diaper Cream
There are many options out there when it comes to diaper creams and ointments. But considering the ingredient list may narrow your choices; some frightening things show up in diaper creams!
One leading brand contains BHA, an ingredient that receives the highest hazard score (10) from Skin Deep, the Environmental Working Group’s safety database. BHA is a preservative and stabilizer classified by the U.S. National Toxicology Program as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.” Most popular brands contain parabens that mimic estrogen and can act as potential hormone disruptors.
The most prominent ingredient in our Little Bums diaper cream is an herbal infused olive oil that we make ourselves. We infuse calendula, comfrey, and plantain to create an herbal oil that promotes skin healing and relieves pain, burning, and itching. Coconut oil is a mild oil that is good for sensitive skin, and it helps maintain the skin’s natural moisture balance. Zinc oxide is a mineral that has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender essential oil is known for its calming aroma which is great for babies, and it is also antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiseptic. Rose and chamomile essential oils combine with the lavender essential oil to create a soothing, sweet baby smell that also has some pretty impressive anti-bacterial properties as well. Vitamin E is added for its preservative qualities.
Breathe Easy Vapor Salve
Breathe Easy is probably the one product we made out of a true need. Of course we love everything we make, but this product has a special inspiration. Ashley’s son, Josiah, was born with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
CF is an incurable, hereditary disease that causes a sticky mucus to clog certain organs, especially the lungs. If you have a child who has ever been sick, you know the lengths you will go to in order to help relieve your child’s symptoms. We created Breathe Easy for just this reason with Josiah in mind.
We wanted something that would help to open up his lungs and sinus passage, but we didn’t want to slather him in that petroleum and turpentine-based rub we could get at the store. So, we created our Breathe Easy salve with thyme-infused oil (known for its bacteria-fighting properties) and the essential oils of peppermint, eucalyptus, and menthol crystals. These powerful essential oils work to open up congested sinuses and soothe airways, and as the herbal infusion is absorbed into the skin, it helps fight infection along the way.
So whether you or your child fights an incurable disease or just a common cold, see if this salve will help you Breathe Easy!
Scratchy Soother Itch Relief Salve
We are not doctors, and we don’t have eczema in our families, but if eczema irritated any of us, we’d definitely try Scratchy Soother!
Most of the over-the-counter anti-itch creams have a long list of questionable ingredients, so we love the peace of mind that a soothing, herbal salve offers. But as soothing and gentle as these salves are, the properties of the herbs pack a powerful punch when it comes to symptom relief! After we developed the Scratchy Soother line, we stumbled across this article by the American Holistic Health Association that discusses herbs that offer effective natural relief for eczema in topical treatment. Four of the six herbs that we use in Scratchy Soother (chamomile, calendula, St. John’s Wort, and witch hazel) made this article’s list for eczema relief!
